Chris Paul crosses over into children's books

Chris Paul's rise to the NBA began on the courts of West Forsyth High School where he led the Titans to the state Class 4-A Eastern Regional Final and a record of 27-3 during his senior year. Arguably one of the most significant moments in his basketball career came when he tallied 61 points in one game as a senior in honor of his grandfather, Nathaniel Jones, who was tragically murdered just days before. When Paul reached the 61-point mark (his grandfather was 61-years old), he intentionally missed a free throw, then took himself out of the game in a fitting tribute to the man that meant so much to him.

Now, NBA star Chris Paul is getting in the game of children's books with
Long Shot: Never Too Small to Dream Big. Paul, of the New Orleans Hornets wrote about his journey to the NBA and how he didn't let his small stature deter him from achieving his dream.

Like most kids growing up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Paul dreamed of playing for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Being such a 'pip squeak' most people told him he was crazy. But Paul used it as motivation, attended college at Wake Forest, and is now heading into his 5th season as an all-star NBA guard.

Publishers' Weekly says, "The off-court text is mainly standard-issue motivational: Mom reminds Chris to have a balanced sense of priorities and to “Just do the best you can with the gifts you have,” while Chris's grandfather, Papa Chilly, advises, “Work harder than everyone else on the court and your size won't matter.” But when the action concentrates on basketball, the writing soars almost as high as Morrison's (Out of the Ballpark) acrylic pictures, and that's saying a lot."

Frank Morrison is a Caldecott Honor and Caretta Scott King Honor winner. This is his first book with Simon and Schuster.
