May Book Brawl Winner

1:46 AM Posted by Lori Calabrese

Our second Book Brawl has officially ended. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed at the lack of voting, but Book Brawl will persevere each month and hopefully more fans will Get in the Game!

This month, the judges' score came to 2-zip! And the winner is...

Dirt on Their Skirts: The Story of the Young Women who Won the World Championship

This was a tough competition because both are wonderful books in their own right. The fiction stories told in each are heartwarming, inspiring, and all out fun because of the subject matter. I LOVE Dirt on their Skirts because it puts you right in the heart of the action. You feel as though you're on the field, kicking up the dust with the unforgettable women players. The voice of the main character is truly unique and it makes you see the game of baseball as if you were a kid again.

Comments about the books...

"Though I like the illus. better for Mama Played Baseball, Dirt on Their Skirts was the easy pick for me. There was more action. You had xtra innings, stolen bases, scorecards, and the actual game stats at the back of the book, plus pictures of the players in the front."

Thanks to everyone who took the time to get in the game and vote! Help spread the word about Book Brawl and let's make this month's competition a knock-down, drag-out fight! We'll announce the competitors tomorrow!

About Book Brawl:
Each month, we'll pit two similar books against each other in the upper right hand sidebar. All month, it's up to you to vote for your favorite. (You'll find the poll in the top right sidebar) Let's keep it friendly, but in the comments section, please feel free to explain the reasons for your vote. What did you like about the book you chose as the winner? What didn't you like about the book you didn't vote for?

At the end of the month, the bell will ring, we'll tally up the results and declare a winner! If there are two books that you would like to see pitted against each other, let us know in the comments and your big match-up just might be our next Book Brawl
